<H1>Training Your Cat To Use The Toilet </H1>

You can train your cat to use the toilet. By doing this it will
save you time and money. There will be little or no mess. Once
the cat has been trained to go into the toilet, you will be able
to eliminate the cat litter and the smell associated with cats.
You will need a few items to get you started. Aluminum foil, a
tray, and cat litter preferably flushable kitty litter.

You will not have to clean the litter box anymore and will save
money on not having to buy the litter any more. You need to
decide which toilet in the house you will use. In addition, what
toilet in the house the cat will use. If you have two toilets it
maybe easier to train than if, you only have one toilet in the
house.

You will have to use an aluminum tray to put on the toilet. With
two toilets in the house, you can leave the tray right in the
toilet and not have to remove it when you need to use the toilet
in the house. If you have only one toilet, it is not that
convenient to share with your cat. You will just have to remove
the tray whenever you want to use the toilet. Be sure to leave
the seat down and lid up for the training period. Leave a note
on the toilet for guests so that your cat does not make a mess
on the floor if the lid is down. Replace the cats litter box
with an aluminum-cooking tray. The aluminum tray should be the
right size to fit in the toilet. The seat lid should be able to
close so that the seat lid holds the tray in place. Remember do
not close the lid. The results may be less than attractive.
Start moving the tray closer and closer to the toilet that the
cat will be using. Be sure not to move it when the cat does not
know it is there. Once the litter tray is in the bathroom put a
something about an inch thick under the tray. Magazines are a
very bad choice for this. The magazines are slick and the litter
box may fall. Continue to raise the litter box about an inch
every day until the litter box is the same level as the toilet.
The cat will be able to just step into the litter box at first.
As you raise the litter box, the cat will have to jump into the
box. You may want to secure the box so it does not move when the
cat jumps into the litter box.

Let the cat know its there by scraping its claws in the tray.
If there is, no litter in the tray the cat will be confused and
will not understand what is going on. After the tray is in the
toilet, you can use cat litter, which is flushable. If you use
flushable kitty litter, you will have little or no mess to clean
up.

Continue to leave the tray there for about 3 weeks. During this
time reduce the litter in the tray and make a 1" diameter hole
in the tray. Every week, make the hole 1/2" bigger. If the cat
messes on the floor then the cat is trying to let you know that
you are moving to fast. If your cat is heavy, try using two
trays to hold its weight.

You may want to wait to train your cat until it is at least 6
months old. Cats younger than that cannot balance well and may
end up being a big problem. Do not get discouraged as the
process could take up to two to three months. The cat will start
with two paws on the tray. As the hole you put into the tray
gets bigger (by 1/2" per weak) it will move a third leg to the
toilet seat. Finally, the cat will have all four legs on the
seat. Some cats cannot grip the seat very well. If the cat is
the only one to use that toilet, you might put some kind of tape
it can grip to on the seat lid.

Look for anything sharp and pointed and remove them from the area immediately. Deal with anything that could strangle your kitten like ropes, ribbons, and cords to provide a safer place for your kittens.

You might also want to save your curtains and drapes from kitten scratches so it would be advisable to tie them up so your kittens will not be able to reach them. Make sure that the cabinet for your cleaning liquids are out of your kittensâ€™ reach. Most of these cleaning liquids are poisonous and you wouldn't want your kitty to play with them to prevent any kind of accident.

Another good preparation that you should not forget is to shop for things that your kitten will need. You will have to shop for foods that are suitable for newborn kittens. You should opt for foods that could give your kittens the kind of nutrition they need for growth. The food should also be easily digestible by kittens to prevent any troubles with their tummy.

You should also get them the things they need like their own bowls, kitty basket or bed, blanket, litter box, and toys. This is to ensure that your kittens will be comfortable and that they will have a good playing time. You should provide them with warm and comfortable place or area to sleep in. When choosing toys for your little kittens, make sure that they are safe and will not put the safety of your kittens at risk.

Lastly, you must make sure that your kittens are healthy. After birth, you could have a vet take a look at them to check them up for any illness and to give them vaccines that they need. If your vet saw some signs and symptoms that suggest illness, your kitten might be subjected to some tests and examinations. This is to ensure that they will grow healthy and will reduce the risk of getting sick. These things will help prepare you and your home for the arrival of your catâ€™s newborn kittens. Keeping Your Geriatric Cat Healthy

Cats, like their human counterparts, are prone to the aches, pains, and health issues that seem to come hand in hand with advancing age. Unfortunately, as the average lifespan of our cats increases so does the chance that owners will see age-related issues arise in their senior cats.

As your cat begins to age your veterinarian will likely start to recommend doing some tests to make sure your cat's internal organs are functioning as they should. Cats have evolved to hide signs that they are feeling under the weather and these tests can let your veterinarian know that something is wrong with your cat long before your cat displays outward signs of illness.

"I recommend that owners have yearly blood work done on their pets if the animal is healthy, and increase that frequency if any clinical signs present themselves or if abnormalities are seen in the blood work," says Dr. Julie Byron, a small animal internist at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Urbana.

According to Dr. Byron, geriatric cat owners should also increase their awareness of how their cat is acting and feeling. It is important to be able to recognize what is normal for your cat so that when there is a change you can recognize it. She explains that a trip to the veterinarian is warranted if your cat is displaying any of the following signs or symptoms:

Cat Blood Types

Cats have A, B and AB (rare) blood types. Most cats in the United States have type A blood - something like 99% of domestic shorthair cats have Type A blood. This ratio varies from country to country. Other cat breeds have a much higher incidence of Type B blood. As the popularity of purebred cats increases it is likely that the ratio of cats with Type B blood will also increase.

There is no "universal donor" blood type in cats - a very small amount of the wrong blood type can kill a cat if is is sensitized to the blood. This can be an issue in some cat breeds. In particular, British Shorthair, Cornish Rex and Devon Rex cats, where the percentage of Type B cats is much higher, perhaps as high as 50%. Other breeds with significant percentages of Type B blood include the Abyssinian, Himalayan, Japanese Bobtail, Persian, Somali and Sphinx breeds. Cats require blood work tests when they need to diagnosed for different diseases. Blood tests are widely used in veterinary medicine. The results are measured against normal values, which are typically present in healthy pets; these values differ across species. The lab test results may be influenced by certain drugs, so always inform your vet about the medication of your pet prior to blood tests. Prior to certain blood tests, your cat should fast.

Complete Blood Count
The complete blood count is a blood test that is very frequently employed to inform the vet about the amount of different types of cells in the blood flow of the cat.

The red blood cell count as well as the white blood cell count and the hemoglobin are important values to determine the condition of the cat. Red blood cells transport the oxygen to the vital organs, while white cells help fighting infections.

A low red blood cell count can indicate anemia, while a high amount of white blood cells can indicate an infection or a viral disease.

Platelets help the blood to clot. If the platelet count is low the cat may have a destroyed bone marrow or an autoimmune disease.

Hematocrit or packed cell volume (PCV) may also measure the red blood cell count.

Singapura Cat and Kitten Information

The Singapura cat is a small, well built cat that can take up to 2 years to reach full maturity. The eyes are characteristically large and are typically yellow, hazel or green in color. The coat of Singapura is short, fine and silky to the touch. Colors can range from light beige to dark brown. Males weigh in at about 6 to 8 pounds and females from 5 to 6 pounds. It can take as long as 2 years for the Singapura to fully mature.

The Singapura will show a curious interest in most everything you do and will try to help out. These unique cats are affectionate, alert and their intelligence is obvious in their behavior.

Brief History of the Singapura Cat
The Singapura comes from Singapore and is the Malaysian name for this island. Hal and Tommy Meadow brought this breed to the United States in the 1970s. By 1982, the Singapura was recognized as breed by most registries and clubs. The Cat Fanciers Association recognized the Singapura for show competition in 1988.

The ancestor of all domestic cats is the African Wildcat, the genus Felis Lybica. This genus is comprised of smaller cats. Cats are thought to have been domesticated with the advent of farming and the storage of grain. The grain attracted rats and other vermin which naturally attracted wild cats. As time evolved, certain of these cats were domesticated for the mutual benefit of both cat and man. The African Wildcat has certain features which is obvious in the housecat of today.
