behavioral reasons. Out of curiosity, a cat will try to chew on
most things. Easy to swallow items will need to be put up out of
reach of your cat.

Cats chewing and eating items, which are not food, thought to be
a lack of certain nutrients in the diet. Vitamin imbalance could
be some of the cause. Making sure, you are purchasing healthy
well balance food for your cat. Healthy eating for a cat means
healthy bones, muscles, and brain functions. If you are not sure
which brand to buy contact your vet for information and
recommendation for a healthy cat food. You will also want to
make sure that your cat has been up-to-date on the shots.

Chewing and sucking on clothing especially wool could mean a
sign of weaning to early. Cats or kitten sucking on wool finds
the smell similar to that of the mother's fur around the nipple.
In turn, this could become a security blanket for the cat, as
long as the fabric is not chewed and swallowed. Your cat may
eventually stop the sucking or not. Your cat still can be a
wonderful companion.

One sign of danger is a cat that is playing or sucking on an
electrical cord. Use Tabasco sauce, cover the cord in duct tape,
bitter products that are for cats (they do not like the taste).
If the cord is not electrical and the cat continues to play with
the cord, search at a local do it yourself centers, for molding
to hide cords.

Household plants are also poisonous to cat. One of the worst one
is the Easter Lilly. That beautiful fresh of spring at Easter
will kill your cat if eaten. Place the plant in an area that the
cat will not be able to reach or there are plants that are not
poisonous at Easter time. Learn and research more about the
plants in your home to make sure that the kinds you have are not
poisonous. Some of the side effects a cat can experience with
eating poisonous plants are welling of the tongue, and throat,
paralysis of the throat. If you see your cat with any of these
signs, please call the vet right away. The cat will need
treatment fast.

Use a couple of leaves on the plant to place or rub bitters or
tobacco sauce, pop a balloon near the cat if you catch them
around the plant. Grow plants that the cat can eat. Catnip is a
great way to start all cats love catnip. Wheat and parsley grows
good indoors and is cat safe.

Remember to praise your cat when the behavior is good. Rewards
as small treats are also a great way to show your cat that you
care. With rewards, it tells them that you approve of the
behavior.

When they are eating a plant, electric cord, the drape cords, or
any small object that has come in the cat's site, a firm "NO"
can do the trick. Drop a heavy book, hissing sounds, some type
of loud noise that will distract the cat from the chewing. Have
spray bottles with water handy. Cats do not like the spray of
water.

Never hit a cat for any reason, never tap the nose, or throw the
cat. Any physical harm you do to a cat they will fear you. The
training for your cat not to fear you after you have done
physical harm to them will never work Always remember you are
the human in the training and your cat is the cat. You can only
train a cat if you know how to do it the proper way. Training a
cat and not following thou will be disaster when the time comes
to retrain.

As a cat gets older, they are set in their ways and this is very
difficult to train. Start with the trainings early, as it is the

Black Mold Poisoning in Cats

Black mold poisoning was first documented in 2007 when a veterinarian noticed unusual symptoms in a couple of his feline patients on which was performing a dental procedure. The cats died soon after being treated. The cause of the cats' deaths were not the veterinarian's fault as blood tests done on the cats before they died revealed toxic black mold in their systems. The black mold is believed to have been the cause of their deaths. Mold is not just an unattractive substance one may find in their home, it is a substance that can cause toxicity and death in cats.

An Overview of Black Mold Black mold, also known as Stachybotrys chartarum, is known to cause illnesses in humans, but it was not until the unfortunate incident with the two cats did people in the animal care community learn that the spores were harmful in felines. The home in which the cats lived had water damage a couple of years prior to their deaths. The water damage was not properly remediated and mold began to grow in the home, which poisoned the cats.

Mold loves humidity and thrives in damp locations. Black mold contains myotoxins, a liquid or gas compound that is secreted. The toxins released by mold are known to be one of the most deadly chemicals on the planet. Mold growth can be prevented by making sure property that has gotten wet is thoroughly dried. If there is mold damage to a home, the mold must be killed (even if that means calling specialists) so it does not continue to grow and further destroy property and the lives of those in the house.

Cat Blood Types

Cats have A, B and AB (rare) blood types. Most cats in the United States have type A blood - something like 99% of domestic shorthair cats have Type A blood. This ratio varies from country to country. Other cat breeds have a much higher incidence of Type B blood. As the popularity of purebred cats increases it is likely that the ratio of cats with Type B blood will also increase.

There is no "universal donor" blood type in cats - a very small amount of the wrong blood type can kill a cat if is is sensitized to the blood. This can be an issue in some cat breeds. In particular, British Shorthair, Cornish Rex and Devon Rex cats, where the percentage of Type B cats is much higher, perhaps as high as 50%. Other breeds with significant percentages of Type B blood include the Abyssinian, Himalayan, Japanese Bobtail, Persian, Somali and Sphinx breeds. Owning a Persian cat is really wonderful. This beauty is somewhat a cross between a small dog and a domestic cat. They most definitely have a personality all their own. I know this because I am the owner of 6 Persians. They are just the sweetest animals that our God has created and I love mine very much. 3 of the 6 Persians that I own are from Rescues.

Let me tell my story about Madison. I saw her picture on a Persian cat adoption website and fell in love. I have always wanted a White Persian but they are really hard to find and very expensive. I followed through and filled out the online application and within a week I was invited up to Wisconsin to visit and see this beauty and decide on whether or not I would be a possible new owner. I remember my first thought was how very thin and scared she looked. When I opened her cage she ran under a locker that was along the wall of the room. After a few minutes I could see her peek out at me.

And I just fell in love with this baby. I knew that I had to get this girl into a safe house with nourishment and love. From stress she had already lost a substantial amount of her hair and when I finally convinced her to allow me to pick her up I could feel the vertebrae in her back. And there were a few major knots on her shoulder and along her side that needed to be attended to. Yes with God's help I could make her healthy again!
