Cartoon Cat Teaches Kids It's Okay To Be Different

Floppy Cat isn’t like all the other cats. Instead of strolling and running, he flips, flops and sways when he walks.

But instead of treating his oddball crawl like a hindrance, he treats it like a gift, making his story a metaphor for any child who isn’t like everyone else.

Kari Kay, author of Floppy Cat, from the Floppy Cat Company (www.floppycat.com) based her children’s book on the life of her real cat, Floppy, who was born with a balance disability that turned his normal feline gait into a staccato strut, making every step a challenge. She wants to use his life, turned into a rhyming children’s story – complete with a CD of uplifting music about the hidden blessings of being special – to inspire children who may view their own differences in a negative light.

The story of Floppy Cat is based on the real life of a SD farm cat once owned by author Kari Kay.

“Floppy was born with very little balance control which made his daily life very difficult,” Kay said. “He had two other siblings that were born with the same challenges - Flippy and Shakey. Flippy and Shakey laid around most of the day letting their challenges get the best of them, while Floppy reacted differently. He spent his days taking on one adventure after another. Rarely did you see Floppy in one place for very long. Floppy enjoyed his life. Never letting his challenges stand in his way of having fun.”

While Kay knows the book will resonate with children who may be different for one reason or another, she feels the primary messages in her book apply to every child, no matter their gifts or hindrances. Her main points include:
• Keep your Whiskers held high and your tail to the sky – No matter your situation, always have faith that being yourself is more than enough to making the most out of life.
• Don’t let challenges hold you back from doing or getting what you want – Life isn’t always going to be easy, but that doesn’t mean you should let its challenges hold you back. Facing them with a smile can be your strength!
• Figure out what you want and go for it and be willing to learn new things – It’s sometimes easier knowing what you don’t want than what you do want, but once you’ve figured it out, you should be more like Floppy, who didn’t let anything stand in his way.
• Believe in yourself! Use your uniqueness to move forward in life – Being different isn’t a burden, but rather, it’s a gift. Use it to your advantage instead of letting it hold you back. Your ability to overcome adversity will inspire everyone around you.
• Stay positive! Look for the good in every situation – Even at its worst, life can still have its good points, if we only look for them. Floppy wouldn’t have had to look far to find doom and gloom, but instead – no matter what – he could always see the good in every situation.

“If you want to live life to the fullest – stay focused on what you want, look for the good, and never, never let challenges stand in your way as obstacles,” she said. “Rather, you use them as opportunities to grow and become all that you want to be.”

Norwegian Forest Cats lived in a harsh and cold climate for most of the year, so their coats are adapted to this environment. Some say that grooming so not necessary, regular grooming of a Norwegian Forest Cat is a useful tool in combating shedding, though they shed far less than other longhairs. They require regular brushing to help deal with tangles and matting and may require a bath at times if they get too oily (the oil is what makes the coat water resistant). The coats themselves appear in many colors and patterns.

Multi-Vitamin for Cats

Many pet owners wish to provide their animals with the best health possible by giving them a multi-vitamin for cats. Cats require a certain careful balance of vitamins and minerals as well as other nutrients in order to function at their best. By ingesting the proper combination of these vitamins, your cat will remain healthy and strong and is more likely to enjoy a long, happy, and illness free life.

The exact vitamins which your cat will need are slightly different from the vitamins which you may see in a human multi-vitamin supplement, however, so it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the basics of feline nutrition before you purchase anything.

Benefits of Multi-Vitamins for Cats
Ideally, a good cat food will provide your pet with all of the different vitamins and nutrients that he needs. However, there are a number of reasons why he may still require a vitamin supplement as well. First, many cat foods do not provide the highest quality nutrients as a result of lower quality ingredients in the food. Second, sitting on the shelf for weeks or even longer can mean that the vitamins and nutrients which are naturally in cat food are reduced in quantity, thereby not giving your cat the nutrition he requires. For this reason, multi-vitamins are a good supplement to help your cat overall.

Components of a Cat Good Multi-Vitamin Cats require certain enzymes and amino acids that can only be found in meat sources. For this reason, cats that do not eat meat will not be healthy and, ultimately, will not survive. Thus, many of the multi-vitamin supplements that are available for cats focus on some of these types of nutrients which are usually found in meat sources. These include:

Cat Blood Types

Cats have A, B and AB (rare) blood types. Most cats in the United States have type A blood - something like 99% of domestic shorthair cats have Type A blood. This ratio varies from country to country. Other cat breeds have a much higher incidence of Type B blood. As the popularity of purebred cats increases it is likely that the ratio of cats with Type B blood will also increase.

There is no "universal donor" blood type in cats - a very small amount of the wrong blood type can kill a cat if is is sensitized to the blood. This can be an issue in some cat breeds. In particular, British Shorthair, Cornish Rex and Devon Rex cats, where the percentage of Type B cats is much higher, perhaps as high as 50%. Other breeds with significant percentages of Type B blood include the Abyssinian, Himalayan, Japanese Bobtail, Persian, Somali and Sphinx breeds. (preceding information from Urs Giger, University of Pennsylvania, Kirk's XI).

If a Type B queen (mother cat) gives birth to Type A kittens, severe reactions can occur in the kittens

Lab Blood Work Tests for Cats

Cats require blood work tests when they need to diagnosed for different diseases. Blood tests are widely used in veterinary medicine. The results are measured against normal values, which are typically present in healthy pets; these values differ across species. The lab test results may be influenced by certain drugs, so always inform your vet about the medication of your pet prior to blood tests. Prior to certain blood tests, your cat should fast.

Complete Blood Count
The complete blood count is a blood test that is very frequently employed to inform the vet about the amount of different types of cells in the blood flow of the cat.

The red blood cell count as well as the white blood cell count and the hemoglobin are important values to determine the condition of the cat. Red blood cells transport the oxygen to the vital organs, while white cells help fighting infections.

A low red blood cell count can indicate anemia, while a high amount of white blood cells can indicate an infection or a viral disease.

Platelets help the blood to clot. If the platelet count is low the cat may have a destroyed bone marrow or an autoimmune disease.

Hematocrit or packed cell volume (PCV) may also measure the red blood cell count.

Commonly Performed Blood Tests There are numerous tests that can be performed on a cat to determine his health condition. Some tests will show how a particular organ functions, while other tests will give a general overview.

The following tests are most commonly performed in felines:

How to Avoid a Bad Cat Breeder

It is human nature to be greedy, and greed leads to dishonorable behavior such as being despicable and mean. Some professional breeders you see may not be professional at all, or even close. They only want to make some a lot of money by pulling a fast one on gullible or inexperienced pet buyers, and do not even know the most basic needs of animals.

Bad breeders are ignorant to the fact that they are incapable of being a proper breeder. They are not aware that they are not fully educated and informed about the proper lifestyle and etiquette of a professional breeder. Being in the pet business may bring lucrative profits, hence the temptation to take advantage of it to make a fortune. These unscrupulous breeders are easy to sniff out, and are also known as backyard breeders who usually run their operations through newspapers and Internet ads with the claims of selling good pedigree cats with unbelievably low price tags.

Most of these animals sold by the unprofessional breeders to uneducated people who just want a cheap pet as a companion will end up in a shelter or at other people’s homes. Viruses are common among cats or kittens that are sold at a low price, as being kept in poor surroundings exposes them to illnesses and viruses, especially if their owners are not very passionate and responsible about them. Don’t be too quick to condemn these pet owners, for some people just do not realize the effort of raising a healthy pet and need the issue brought to their attention. .

Here are some common signs that should help you recognize a bad cat breeder:

1. Good, passionate breeders are usually proud of their work. They would take pride of the pedigree they raised, and would want to show them off. If the breeder does not take part in showing the cats, it shows that he is not very concerned about the cats’ quality.

2. Ask the right questions. An experienced and professional cat breeder would know all the right answers to your questions, as well as providing thorough explanations instead of short, simple lines. Knowing the history of a pedigree cat’s bloodline is a basic must in breeders. Therefore, if a breeder is unable to provide you with proper history of a cat, other information he offered may not be hundred percent accurate.

Grooming Tips for Preventing Matted Cat Hair

Matted cat hair is entangled hair that ends up in tight knots. Long haired breeds are more susceptible to the condition than other pets. Cat hair is divided into three categories as each type of hair performs a certain role. The types of cat hair include awn hair, down hair and guard hair. The various function of cat hair involves protection from environmental contaminants, heat and cold. The uppermost layer of cat hair also determines the color of individual pets.

Cat Hair Conditions
Cats shed their fur during specific periods. However, fur loss that's caused due to skin conditions such as alopecia, dermatitis or skin allergy needs medical treatment. Although cats routinely groom themselves to maintain their fur coats, pets also develop conditions such as cat hairball due to the ingestion of hair during routine grooming. Pet owners should thus groom the cat with a brush to avoid excessive self-grooming and cat hairballs. Cats that appear sick or lethargic may avoid their routine grooming which in turn leads to matted hair. Thick knots are difficult to detangle with a comb and may cause the pet pain, if the mats are located towards sensitive areas of the body.

This is my special blueberry muffin recipe that I created over 30 years ago and I like it so much that I have never stopped using it. It has a magnificent flavor and a wonderful texture, the freshness life of this muffin is about 4days but if frozen it will last for months. The part that I like about this muffin is that it is very versatile, you can use any kind of fruit in it besides blueberries, for example you can use cranberries, raspberries, apples, and if you add some solid pack pumpkin with seasonings you have pumpkin muffins and so on, let your imagination run away with you.

How to Feed Your Feline Friends
First, understand that cats are true carnivores. They require more protein in their diets to maintain a healthy digestive system. Some digestive problems associated with insufficient protein include, runny stools, diarrhea and chronic irritable bowel disease. Commercial dry cat food can amount to nothing more than meat flavored cereal, which will not meet the metabolic needs of your cat. In order for a feline to utilize carbohydrates from plant sources, they require very specific amino acids. Some other common feline health problems include kidney failure, bladder stones, diabetes and cystitis.
