Finding a good trainer for your cat
Training a cat has been great interest to people, as to weather
you can train a cat or not. Cats are independent animals, which
leads people to believe training will not be able to be done.
With the different personalities, characteristic or species
peculiarities in cats Training can be fun in training a cat.
Looking for a good trainer takes time and work to do, some one
that claim they have been working with cats for years are not
always seem, what they appear to be. Ask this person how many
cats that they train a year. This will give you an idea if they
have really trained a cat or just seem to think they are a
trainer.
Asking the right people for the right information is going to
lead you to the best trainer for you and the cat. Asking friends
or the vet for information about training will not be a great
idea. A trainer can tell when the behavior is a medical problem
and will lead you to the vet, as they are the ones that deal
with the medical problem and the trainer with the training
problem. We are selves would not go to a heart doctor if our
foot is hurting. Putting a cat on drugs for behavior problems is
not a good idea until you are sure that the behavior is not a
genetic or psychotic one. You can spend a lot of time and money
if you are not careful with finding a good trainer.
When considering a trainer there are a few areas, which can help
you in searching.
What is the approach they take? Is it flexible enough for the
cat and you? Anyone sticking to certain way of training is not a
trainer that you should consider and looking for. Treats,
negative reinforcement, and punishment will not be answer in
training your cat.
Communication and to communicate clearly, are they able to do
this. Big words, terminology will not help in the training of
the cat or the communication with you and your cat.
Not only cat skill do they possess but also people skills, you
and your cat both will be working with them. Can they teach you
properly how to doing things with your cat.
Considering an individual cat or are they more interested in
solving the problem. Training a cat can be easy. With different
breed of cats and personalities, each cat needs consideration.
Teaching skills, are the skills, something that you and your cat
able to do. Being successful for you and the cat is very
important as part as training. You will need to be able to learn
skills from the trainer to help your cat with the training. The
trainer will not be at the home all the time.
How long in the profession for training a cat. Find one that
been in the business for a while and with a stable business, not
one that may pack and leave before the training is done and once
the training is done you may need contact with them for some
situations.
Humane methods that they use trust, understanding, respect are
good traits for a trainer.
Harsh techniques will not be good enough for the cat as for you
and is not a good practice and the trainer should not be a
trainer.
Are you comfortable and is your cat comfortable around this
trainer. If you or your cat is not comfortable with the trainer,
the time and money that you put in for the training will be as
effective as the training of your cat. They will not be able to.
In addition, the cat will not allow the training to be.
Finding a good trainer looks like a real job to take on.
Remembering the simple area to look at will help you with the
job. Most important one will be communication. If you and your
cat are unable to communicate with the trainer, there is no
training.
With the proper research, you and your cat will be on your way
to a great training session.

The 5 Things You Should Know Before Breeding Cats
The cat population is astronomical. Most experts agree that average cat owners should spay their cat, not breed. Still there are people who want to have a litter from their pet. But there’s a lot to think about before planning a feline family.

If you make in hard to access the kitten will find places that are easier for them to get to, when they need to relieve themselves. Another mistake in litter box placement that most new owners tend to make, is trying to hide the litter box away in a small room. This will actually make the smell worse. Smaller rooms in houses tend to be less ventilated, when there is no air flow it is harder for any of the smell to escape.

Pet Nutrition Basics for Dogs & Cats
Good Nutrition is just as essential for your pet’s health as it is for your own health. Your pet needs a balanced diet to help keep him healthy. Unlike humans, your pet’s daily diet is the same day to day.
A very important aspect of new kitten care is keeping your kitten safe from danger. There are a lot of potential hazards round the home for little kittens. This article lists the most common ones and suggests ways you can minimize risks to your kitten and keep her safe.
Washing machine and tumble dryer:
If you leave the door open and there are clothes inside, there's a good chance your kitten will climb in and go to sleep. Always check your kitten isn't inside these before you use them.
Fridge and freezer:
As soon as you've used these, shut the door.
Hob and oven:
Shut the oven door as soon as you've finished with it. Cover hot hob plates.
Raw meat:
Keep it out of reach - it can give your kitten food poisoning.
Garbage:
Put all garbage in a sealed bin that your kitten can't access.
Plants:
Many plants are poisonous to cats. If you're not sure whether a certain plant is safe for your kitten if she eats it, put it out of her reach.
Pot pourri:
The oils used to scent this can be poisonous.
Open fires and candles:
Use a guard on the fire. Never leave a kitten in a room alone with lit candles.
Electrical wires:
If your kitten is a wire chewer, you'll need to put wires out of her reach or buy plastic covers for them.
Curtain tie-backs and cords on window blinds:
Kittens can get caught in these. Either remove them completely or tie them up out of reach.
Filled bathtubs and sinks:
Make sure your kitten doesn't have access to the room when the tub or sink is full.
Open toilet:
Try to get into the habit of keeping the lid down when the toilet's not in use.
Medications:
Keep them in a cupboard that your kitten can't get into.
Small objects:
Kittens can swallow small things like paper clips, rubber bands, staples and needles.
String, wool, fishing line and thread:
Kittens can swallow large quantities of these. For this reason, balls of wool or string and pom-poms aren't good toys for cats.
Household chemicals:
Most cleaners etc. are highly poisonous to cats and need to be kept somewhere your kitten can't access.
Tobacco:
Tobacco, nicotine patches and nicotine gum are all poisonous to cats.
Reclining chairs, futons, folding beds, drawers:
If kittens get caught when this type of furniture is moved, they can get crushed. Make sure your kitten isn't asleep somewhere she could get trapped before you use any of these.
Safety is a major factor for new kitten care. It's fairly easy to keep your kitten safe as long as you anticipate potential dangers and take the necessary steps to prevent them. Putting brightly colored post it notes up around your home is a good way to do this. Stick the notes on or near potential dangers - for example the fridge, washing machine, oven, toilet and futon - and anywhere else that could be a hazard.

New Article - Choosing the Healthiest Cat Food Brand
Choosing be best cat food brand for your pet is more important than ever. Recent pet food recall events have alerted cat owners to the dangers posed by many commercial cat food and kitten food brands.
Healthier Cat Foods Have Higher Quality Ingredients
Although most commercial cat foods meet the criteria for "complete and balanced" as determined by AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials), these standards do not assure the safety or quality of the ingredients. All products in the recent cat food recall bore the AAFCO certification.
Better foods will cost more initially, but the lack of fillers and increased bioavailability of quality ingredients will save money over time. Your cat will get more nutrition out of less food and suffer fewer food allergies. Ultimately, the cost savings of inexpensive, poor-quality foods is a false economy.
While most people tend to look past these lost souls, assuming they either live with someone or don't deserve a moment's thought because they are pests, there are others who feel differently. Some people understand that stray cats aren't being stray on purpose just to irritate humans. They have been abandoned, perhaps, or were born to a stray that was abandoned.
The reasons for their existence vary, but it's probably safe to say their fate has been created by humans. Therefore, it should be up to us to remedy the situation and to tend to the needs of these cats.
For those who sympathize with these homeless ones, it can be heart wrenching to watch them suffer. Many sensitive, caring people want to help, but may not know how to do it.
The first consideration has to be your own safety. Often, even if a cat started out as a loved family companion, it can still transform into a fearful or aggressive animal who must go into "survival mode" to live in a hostile world. You may not be able to simply reach down and pick the cat up. Why would a cat that has been treated badly trust you? How would it understand that you mean it no harm when everyone else has been cruel or abusive? Such a cat might not be friendly and you must take precautions.

New Article - Feline Panleukopenia Disease
Feline Panleukopenia or Feline Distemper is a serious disease that occur in cats. It is also known as Feline Distemper. The illness is caused by a Parvovirus that is present everywhere in the environment and has been recorded in many countries. As such most cats are exposed to the pathogen to varying degrees. However, the disease only takes hold in cats with weakened immunity.
Most cat owners are unaware of Feline Panleukopenia since kittens are routinely immunized against it as part of the standard vaccination regimen. The disease thus appears in feral, abandoned and other stray felines that have not received adequate protection. Once the illness takes hold, it is deadly - killing up to nine out of every ten individuals. No cure exists apart from dietary support and loving care. If the cat is able to pull through the acute phase lasting the first week, it is likely to survive and develop complete future immunity against the illness.
New Article - The Importance of Sterilizing Cats!
Numerous articles have been written about the importance of spaying and neutering cats and the health benefits that are gained by doing so. Many people are aware that the sterilization process is a good thing and abide by the usual recommendations. However, every once in a while it is a good thing to write a reminder to those, who do not believe in spaying or neutering, about why they should.
Spring and summer is known across our country as the "kitten season." Many female cats will be giving birth and many kittens will be unwanted and end up in shelters or even put to death by their owners.
A female cat can come into heat as early as four months - especially in the springtime. Locking a cat in the house may seem like a great alternative, but it plays havoc with a cat's health.
The reproductive system that nature created in a female cat is amazingly efficient. Having kittens is a very natural part of a female cat's life and not having kittens, without the help of being spayed is very hard on a cat.
Male cats are always willing and able to mate, and if they do not have anyone to mate with, it does not present a problem. They will just sit around and wait until a female presents itself.
Female cats on the other hand have reproductive needs that have to be met, that is the way nature created the female cat. If you do not want kittens, it is important to have your female spayed by at least six months of age.
New Article - Homemade Kitten Food
Do you need a cheap, healthy alternative to store bought kitten food to help wean your kittens off their mother's milk and transition them to traditional canned kitten food? More than likely, they have shown little interest in regular canned food, preferring the milk to anything you might put in their bowl. Dry food will also be too hard on their developing teeth. The best option would be to start them on a food that reminds them of what they prefer, but can be mixed with traditional wet food to help transition them over. This recipe is simple to make, and kittens find it delicious.
Bring 1 1/2 cups of water to a boil, then remove the pan from the heat and mix in one envelope of unflavored gelatin. Be sure to mix thoroughly, and do not boil the gelatin. If the water tastes bad or has a heavy chlorine taste when it comes out of the tap, consider using filtered water instead.
Pour this mixture into a blender along with half of a 12 ounce can of goat's milk. Blend just long enough to combine thoroughly. Do not substitute cow's milk because cats tend to be lactose intolerant. Using cow's milk can lead to discomfort, diarrhea, and worse if fed to kittens.
Add the following ingredients one at a time. After each addition, blend briefly to combine before moving on to the next. You will want to use the lowest setting to avoid overmixing. Add: 3 tbsp full fat yogurt, 3 tbsp real mayonnaise, 3 tsp light corn syrup, and 1 raw egg yolk. Concerning the egg yolk, raw eggs carry a small risk of salmonella poisoning. To eliminate any risk of accidentally passing this on to your kittens, use eggs that have been pasteurized in their shells.

How To Keep Cats Off Kitchen Benches
This is a common question asked of cat owners. Most people assume that a stern "off" will stop your cat jumping onto kitchen benches. What is likely to happen by doing this is that your cat will learn not to jump up when you are around, but may continue with this behaviour when you're not home.
Many cat owners are happy for their cat to jump onto kitchen benches, but there are good reasons why this practice shouldn't be allowed.
* Safety: There is the chance that your cat could jump onto the hot stove top either burning itself by direct contact with the hotplates or knocking over a pan with boiling liquids. It may ingest cleaning products you have used in the kitchen such as bleach in the sink.
* Hygiene: Tiny particles of cat urine & faeces will be on the paws from using the litter tray. These will be transferred to the counter top. This may cause no illness in humans but why take the chance? What if your cat has been infected with toxoplasmosis or has a parasitic infection which you are not aware of?
* Food: Another safety concern is if your cat eats food from the bench which is dangerous, for example cooked chicken bones. Do you really want your feline tucking into Sunday's roast which is thawing?
There are several methods which can be used to discourage this behaviour using what is known as "remote punishment". This means the environment is responsible for creating a deterrent to jumping onto the benches, and not you. The focus is to make countertops an unattractive area to cats.

Ms Pears, 30, who describes herself as âchief crazy cat ladyâ, spotted a gap in the market in Britain. With landlords none too keen on tenants keeping animals in rented accommodation, and with increased financial pressures meaning not everyone can afford the food and veterinary care necessary to look after a pet, Ms Pears quickly found thousands of supporters for her fledgling business.
She has received more than 300 job applications and a further15 are sent in every day.
The cats will be rescue animals from the Mayhew Animal Home in Kensal Green, north-west London, and Ms Pears claimed their welfare was at the forefront of her mind.
âWe tried to figure out a solution where the cats donât get too stressed out which is why weâve introduced the cover charge,â she said.
âThat way, people can stay as long as they like without feeling like theyâre against the clock which works for the cats because it takes cats a little time to get used to people.â

How to Treat a Cat that is Bleeding
Sneezing in Cats
Sneezing in cats is almost always associated with nasal discharge, and out side of coughing is perhaps the most dangerous sound you will ever hear from your cat. All cats will sneeze occasionally as well as have some nasal discharge, but if it becomes severe, chronic or reoccurring, it should signal you that there is an underlying problem. Unfortunately for some cats, especially if they are older, the underlying problem is usually something very sinister.
For this reason, sneezing should be treated with a sense of urgency and you should immediately check your cat for any type of a nasal discharge. Cats by nature are extremely meticulous and if you do not check very quickly, the early warning signs of a discharge may go unnoticed.
Sneezing in cats is a reflex of their upper airways and is meant to activate irritating material from their nasal cavities. In most all cases, this activation is explosive in nature and you will be able to see the discharge. If there is no discharge at all, it is usually a one and done type of occurrence and you have nothing to worry about. However, if a discharge is present, it is usually the sign of an irritation, the beginning stages of a nasal disease, or something serious.
Finding the nasal discharge at first may be very difficult as your cat will quickly lick away any secretions, but if it does intensify, it will build in volume. Once this occurs, the type of discharge will also begin to change and you will be able to see secretions start to accumulate on your cats nostrils or their surrounding hair. If it does become severe, you will also see what is referred to as nasopharynx, which is a retching or a reversed form of sneezing.

Cat Attacking Ankles
Ankle biting and sudden attacks are most often associated with your catâs aggression but there may be a reasonable explanation. Cats have a strong natural desire to hunt and they are taught by their mother how to do it. Nowhere is where the problem starts. Inside the house, there isn't much to satisfy this desire to hunt Mice, fleas, bugs of all sorts, spiders and the like are all that the cat has to hunt, and other attractive prey are scarce indoors.
They have to make do with what they have so that may mean that they will
hide out and when you least expect it, they will attack ankles and other moving
body parts of their human counter parts. In some cases you can provide an
appropriate toy to help him with the problem of wanting to hunt something.
Remember that cats have this urge to hunt instilled in their being.
Toys that work in a lot of cases are furry balls on a string, wand, or attached to
a small fishing rod for efficient "casting" and interesting motion as it is reeled
in. There are other things you could try like a wind up mouse or a battery
operated toy that moves on its own. If your children have a radio controlled car
and your cat is not afraid of it that may work to satisfy the urge to hunt. Some
people just tie a toy on a string and drag it thru the house so that the cat will
attack the object and making it a better target then your ankles to bite at.

Can You Really Train A Cat? Is It Worth The Trouble?
Cats are notoriously independent and have a mind of their own. Can you really teach a cat new tricks? Cat owners often think that their cat is just too moody to listen. Some owners feel their cats are UN-trainable simply because they are arrogant. The fact is many times pets donât obey because they donât understand what you want from them. So, if you have tried to train your cat, you may not be doing it right.
Training your cat takes time and patience. It takes more of that then it does with a dog. A sure fire way to get results is to use positive reinforcement. Whatever you do, donât scold your cat because she is likely to just misbehave when you arenât looking. Instead, praise good behavior.Any cat can learn. It is wise to first start when the pet is young, about eight to ten weeks old. But, the pet will do well at any age.
How do you get started? The first thing to start with is training your cat to come when called. Hold your catâs favorite treat and call his name. Youâll want to make sure heâs in a good mood. Youâll also want to make sure there isnât a lot of noise either. Distractions will slow down the cat or confuse him. Decide on one command and use it solely. The command should be short and easy to say. For example, come kitty works well or here kitty will work too.
Now, get down on her level by sitting or kneeling on the floor. Give the command. Make sure your voice is exciting and happy. When the cat comes to you, reward him with the treat. Also, insure that you praise the cat as well. Then, move away and do the same thing again. The goal is to use the same tone of voice and the same command. Work on it for no more than ten minutes. If the cat is bored or frustrated, stop for the time. Try to do this two or three times a day for about a week.
Once he gets this command, you can move on to others. Some things that your cat needs to learn for his own well being are necessary to teach any and all cats. For example, he needs to learn to tolerate a harness and a leash in case you need to travel with him. Also, the cat should learn to use a crate.
Using a Leash and Harness: To do this, youâll want to start by putting the harness on him. Do not restrain him once it is in place. Praise him for it. Give him a treat for behaving so well. Once he is used to wearing it, attach the leash to it and let him lead you throughout the area. Coax him into following you with treats and praise. Some cats will learn to heel on the leash. But, most will not. All should learn to not panic or to struggle, though when wearing a leash.

Are There Better Cat Breeds as Pets?
Cats have been a part of human life since ancient times. Today they are second only to dogs in popularity. Taking care of cats is easy to do, even if you are away from your apartment for long periods of time during the day. If this sounds like your schedule, a cat as a pet is a good choice.
The majority of felines don't come with a pedigree because most cats are derived from multiple breeds. Actually there are only a small 3% of felines that are purebred. This is because they cost a lot more than the mixed breed cat and have no significant advantages or disadvantages over the mixed breeds. Across the globe, there are now just over one hundred purebred cats that have been identified.
There are notable distinctions between the unique breeds. There are distinct types of body shapes, coat lengths, color of coat, eye color, personalities and size of the animal. Cats can be categorized as the short haired or long haired variety. The most common of the two being short hair varieties.
Long haired cats take more time to care for. They require more daily grooming and are more prone to hairballs. Also, the long fur makes it more challenging to get rid of fleas, and harder to care for any cuts they may have.

Teacup Kittens - The World's Smallest Kitten Not all cats advertised as miniature are teacup kittens. Be aware that the standard size female cat will weight about 11 to 14 pounds. The standard size male cat will weight about 12 to 17 pounds. A teacup size female cat will weight about 3 to 6.5 pounds and the teacup size male will weight about 3 to 7.5 pounds. This is a good rule-of-thumb to keep in mind when shopping for a teacup. Some unscrupulous breeders will try to sell you a cat under ten pounds as a teacup when that weight falls within the normal weight range for a standard cat. When shopping for a teacup do not be fooled by a breeder that will try to sell you a runt or tell you that any cat less than ten pounds is a miniature.
American Bobtail - The Facts Every Owner Of This Cat Breed Should Know The American Bobtail has grown in popularity in recent years. Originally bred in the 1960s, John and Brenda Sanders found a male brown tabby cat with a bobbed tail while vacationing in Arizona and bred it with a Siamese female. The resulting litter was born with bobtails, but this feral looking cat is most likely not part Bobtail. American Bobtails are medium to large cats that have a naturally short tail (hence the name 'Bobtail') that is usually straight. The American Bobtail's hind legs are slightly longer than the front legs. Females will reach and average weight of seven to twelve pounds and males can average over fifteen pounds.
Cat Spraying - What Is It, Why Do Cats Do It And How Do You Stop It If you own a cat chances are you have had a spraying issue at least once. Spraying is a different type of urination problem in that instead of peeing on the floor or in a litter box your cat will go on an upright surface like a chair leg or door jamb usually at nose level for other cats to smell. It is important to know that in some cases a female cat will also spray urine directly on the floor.

Eye on India
India, officially the Republic of India (BhÄrat GaáčarÄjya),is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west; China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Burma and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four of the world's major religionsâHinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhismâoriginated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also helped shape the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom from the mid-19th century, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance and led by Mahatma Gandhi.

A Squinting Cat May Signal Conjunctivitis If your handsome Maine coon winks at you from across the room and doesn't stop, it's probably not saying, "Hey baby, can I buy you a drink?" In all likelihood it's squinting because its eye hurts. By definition, conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the inner eyelid and the superficial layer of the eye.

Feline Obesity - A Growing Concern Obesity in cats is a growing concern. In fact, 25 to 30 percent of pet cats seen by veterinarians these days are overweight. The condition seems to be more prevalent today than it was 20 years ago, primarily because of differences in lifestyle and feeding. A large number of cats are exclusively indoor pets who are rarely called upon to defend their territory, stalk their prey or do little more than beg for their next meal.
