Cats Training on Extreme Meowing
Has you cat been trained to do excess meowing? When we hear a
cat meowing, what is the first thing that comes in one's mind?
Your cat is hungry! This would be a wrong answer! Excess meowing
for your cat can mean a number of things. Are they having
discomfort, medical problems, are they bored, or does your cat
want to spend time with you. Of course, they could be hungry or
have learned this habit. When the cat is verbalizing, ignore
them, when they are quiet then reward them. This will let your
cat know this is a good behavior. Giving in when your cat is
noisy will contribute to bad behavior and unsatisfied
relationship for both cat and owner.
First, you will need to get your cat to learn when it is
appropriate to meow, when they really need something. A content
cat will find many things to occupied it self with. This will
mean your cat will do less meowing.
A good thing to remember about your cat, they will not exercise
by themselves. Set up a playtime and area to spend with your
cat. Strings, ball, catnip items, or simple home made items that
your cat will love. This will help develop a good behavior, for
the times that you are away, busy or do not have time to spend
with your cat. Make sure the time you spend with your cat is
around the same time of day. A good time is when you come home
from work or your busy day that you will want to relax. It is
known that cats can help ones blood pressure and help you to
Purring is a way a cat is telling you they maybe content.
Nevertheless, beware not all purring at times are good purrs.
Cats will purr if they are ill, sick, or dying. Pay close
attention to your cat if it is purring your cat can use purring
as a warning when sick; to let other animals know they are a
threat to them.
If your cat stops purring another thing you will want to be
concerned is your cat may be sick with a virus or some other
thing could be wrong. This is the time that you should be
seeking a veterinarian to have your cat examined for any thing
that may be wrong with your cat. In some cases, when cats get
older they may stop purring or maybe the purring is so soft that
you are unable to hear them purr.
Emotions can also be part of a behavior in your cat. In many
cases, we are unable to recognize emotions Fear, grief,
compassion, jealousy, just to name a few. These emotions are
real to us and real to your cat fear of hurt or maybe intimated
by another animal. Grief, if a cat loses it owner they will
grief just as we do losing a love one. Compassion, cats have
compassion of other cats. Jealousy if your cat has to start
sharing owner, home, toys, eating and watering dishes. Here are
some things that we need to take in consideration when trying to
train a cat. Emotions with these emotions you will not be able
to train your cat. Emotions will also cause a cat to have
excessive meowing, that you will not be able to train. We need
to remember when training a cat for meowing restively is why
they are having continued meowing. Are they hurt, ill or is it a
behavior. Are we giving the proper attention that a cat needs?
The cat's emotions are they satisfied with where they are, whom
they are with, and what they are doing. Training a cat is not
easy, it does take time and patience, just like children we need
to teach them the good behavior and ignore the bad ones.
Remember to reward your cat today for being good. Take time with
your cat and teach them how to play with toys and items that
they are allowed to play with. Feed those healthy snacks and
food. Get toys that they will play with. However, most of all be
kind and hug your cat today!

It cannot be passed to humans and is not the same virus as HIV, although both viruses do attack their victims in a similar manner. Veterinarians said Jac's condition was untreatable, and they suggested putting him to sleep.

Cat Training for Your Intractable Cat Cats are almost always depicted as loners, the lords of their realm, snobbish and downright stubborn. This is a type of animal that is quite proud, going their own way and rarely following orders. Think Garfield.
My cat Spike had become uncommonly skittish when he was in his bed in the garage. He has two beds, one in the house and one in the garage. Even if I was outside with him he would nervously keep watch on his surroundings as if expecting something to jump from behind a tree and grab him. If he wanted to go into the garage from the house, he would nervously watch the garage door for any movement from the night. He even had me opening the door and looking outside to see if anything was going on.
Spike seemed to be watching for any sign of the raccoons that had camped out in our garage during the summer. When we had chased off all the raccoons except one, we breathed easier, but then Spike almost lost his leg due to a scuffle with the largest raccoon. Spike had gotten between the raccoon and some leftover food in the cat's dish, leaving the cat with a badly mangled left rear foot.
About the same time, the neighbor's two large dogs that were kept in a pen in their back yard began to go nuts each night about two in the morning. They would howl, bark, and lunge at the fence! You could hear the dog's bodies hitting the chain link fence all the way too my house, two doors away! At this point we still didn't know what was causing the commotion each night.
A few weeks went by and now Spike was spending most of his night time in the house, while the dogs continued to bark each evening after dark. Only after we spotted the coyote crossing the road to trot in our direction did we know what was causing the disturbance. That's when we named the Coyote, Ruckus!

Healthier Cat Foods Have Higher Quality Ingredients
Although most commercial cat foods meet the criteria for "complete and balanced" as determined by AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials), these standards do not assure the safety or quality of the ingredients. All products in the recent cat food recall bore the AAFCO certification.
Better foods will cost more initially, but the lack of fillers and increased bioavailability of quality ingredients will save money over time. Your cat will get more nutrition out of less food and suffer fewer food allergies. Ultimately, the cost savings of inexpensive, poor-quality foods is a false economy.
While most people tend to look past these lost souls, assuming they either live with someone or don't deserve a moment's thought because they are pests, there are others who feel differently. Some people understand that stray cats aren't being stray on purpose just to irritate humans. They have been abandoned, perhaps, or were born to a stray that was abandoned.
The reasons for their existence vary, but it's probably safe to say their fate has been created by humans. Therefore, it should be up to us to remedy the situation and to tend to the needs of these cats.
For those who sympathize with these homeless ones, it can be heart wrenching to watch them suffer. Many sensitive, caring people want to help, but may not know how to do it.
The first consideration has to be your own safety. Often, even if a cat started out as a loved family companion, it can still transform into a fearful or aggressive animal who must go into "survival mode" to live in a hostile world. You may not be able to simply reach down and pick the cat up. Why would a cat that has been treated badly trust you? How would it understand that you mean it no harm when everyone else has been cruel or abusive? Such a cat might not be friendly and you must take precautions.
Changing to a feline kidney diet will help in a number of ways; it is going to make certain that your cat is receiving all the nutrition they require to strive. A feline kidney diet needs to include special vitamins and minerals than you do not generally get in a regular feline diet because there are kidney problems.
New Article - Feline Panleukopenia Disease
Feline Panleukopenia or Feline Distemper is a serious disease that occur in cats. It is also known as Feline Distemper. The illness is caused by a Parvovirus that is present everywhere in the environment and has been recorded in many countries. As such most cats are exposed to the pathogen to varying degrees. However, the disease only takes hold in cats with weakened immunity.
Most cat owners are unaware of Feline Panleukopenia since kittens are routinely immunized against it as part of the standard vaccination regimen. The disease thus appears in feral, abandoned and other stray felines that have not received adequate protection. Once the illness takes hold, it is deadly - killing up to nine out of every ten individuals. No cure exists apart from dietary support and loving care. If the cat is able to pull through the acute phase lasting the first week, it is likely to survive and develop complete future immunity against the illness.
New Article - The Importance of Sterilizing Cats!
Numerous articles have been written about the importance of spaying and neutering cats and the health benefits that are gained by doing so. Many people are aware that the sterilization process is a good thing and abide by the usual recommendations. However, every once in a while it is a good thing to write a reminder to those, who do not believe in spaying or neutering, about why they should.
Spring and summer is known across our country as the "kitten season." Many female cats will be giving birth and many kittens will be unwanted and end up in shelters or even put to death by their owners.
A female cat can come into heat as early as four months - especially in the springtime. Locking a cat in the house may seem like a great alternative, but it plays havoc with a cat's health.
The reproductive system that nature created in a female cat is amazingly efficient. Having kittens is a very natural part of a female cat's life and not having kittens, without the help of being spayed is very hard on a cat.
Male cats are always willing and able to mate, and if they do not have anyone to mate with, it does not present a problem. They will just sit around and wait until a female presents itself.
Female cats on the other hand have reproductive needs that have to be met, that is the way nature created the female cat. If you do not want kittens, it is important to have your female spayed by at least six months of age.
New Article - Homemade Kitten Food
Do you need a cheap, healthy alternative to store bought kitten food to help wean your kittens off their mother's milk and transition them to traditional canned kitten food? More than likely, they have shown little interest in regular canned food, preferring the milk to anything you might put in their bowl. Dry food will also be too hard on their developing teeth. The best option would be to start them on a food that reminds them of what they prefer, but can be mixed with traditional wet food to help transition them over. This recipe is simple to make, and kittens find it delicious.
Bring 1 1/2 cups of water to a boil, then remove the pan from the heat and mix in one envelope of unflavored gelatin. Be sure to mix thoroughly, and do not boil the gelatin. If the water tastes bad or has a heavy chlorine taste when it comes out of the tap, consider using filtered water instead.
Pour this mixture into a blender along with half of a 12 ounce can of goat's milk. Blend just long enough to combine thoroughly. Do not substitute cow's milk because cats tend to be lactose intolerant. Using cow's milk can lead to discomfort, diarrhea, and worse if fed to kittens.
Add the following ingredients one at a time. After each addition, blend briefly to combine before moving on to the next. You will want to use the lowest setting to avoid overmixing. Add: 3 tbsp full fat yogurt, 3 tbsp real mayonnaise, 3 tsp light corn syrup, and 1 raw egg yolk. Concerning the egg yolk, raw eggs carry a small risk of salmonella poisoning. To eliminate any risk of accidentally passing this on to your kittens, use eggs that have been pasteurized in their shells.

Black Mold Poisoning in Cats
Black mold poisoning was first documented in 2007 when a veterinarian noticed unusual symptoms in a couple of his feline patients on which was performing a dental procedure. The cats died soon after being treated. The cause of the cats' deaths were not the veterinarian's fault as blood tests done on the cats before they died revealed toxic black mold in their systems. The black mold is believed to have been the cause of their deaths. Mold is not just an unattractive substance one may find in their home, it is a substance that can cause toxicity and death in cats.
An Overview of Black Mold
Black mold, also known as Stachybotrys chartarum, is known to cause illnesses in humans, but it was not until the unfortunate incident with the two cats did people in the animal care community learn that the spores were harmful in felines. The home in which the cats lived had water damage a couple of years prior to their deaths. The water damage was not properly remediated and mold began to grow in the home, which poisoned the cats.
Mold loves humidity and thrives in damp locations. Black mold contains myotoxins, a liquid or gas compound that is secreted. The toxins released by mold are known to be one of the most deadly chemicals on the planet. Mold growth can be prevented by making sure property that has gotten wet is thoroughly dried. If there is mold damage to a home, the mold must be killed (even if that means calling specialists) so it does not continue to grow and further destroy property and the lives of those in the house.
Shock in cats is not only one of most horrifying situations you will ever face as an owner, it is also a life threatening situation. Any situation or condition that affects your cat's heart, their blood vessels, or their blood volume can cause this potential killer in your cat. It can affect perfectly healthy cats, weak cats, and cats of any age as it does not discriminate.
The actual causes of shock include blood loss, dehydration, heat stroke, blood infections, as well as some types of poisoning. There are also several types of shock, but by far and away there are two forms that affect the vast majority of cats. Both will have different types of symptoms and if do suspect that your cat has gone into shock, every minute that passes places them in greater danger.
The two most common type of shock in cats include Anaphylactic and Septic shock.
What is shock?
Shock in cats is technically defined as a lack of blood flow to your cats organs and tissues. When this occurs, it deprives both oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and as a result allows waste products to build up in your cats body. Once this occurs, it can cause serious damage to your cat and if it is not treated, it can rapidly take their life. Each type of shock will have a different set of symptoms, but there are signs that will be common with either type.
The major warning signs that you can watch for that your cat is going into shock include a very sudden paling or muddy appearance in their gums, as well as a rapid change in their heat rate. This change may be a very sudden weakening or just the opposite; a very rapid heart rate. If your cat suddenly starts breathing at over forty breaths a minute, they are going into shock.
However, there is one other very common sign; your cat cats temperature will suddenly drop. When your cat starts to go into shock, their rectal temperature will drop below 100 degrees Fahrenheit but taking their temperature is probably the last thing you will think of in this emergency situation. However, if you can, it will confirm it; it you can not, quickly feel both their legs as well as their skin in several places. It shock is occurring; they will feel very cool which as any owner knows is extremely uncommon in cats.

Cat Attacking Ankles
Ankle biting and sudden attacks are most often associated with your cat’s aggression but there may be a reasonable explanation. Cats have a strong natural desire to hunt and they are taught by their mother how to do it. Nowhere is where the problem starts. Inside the house, there isn't much to satisfy this desire to hunt Mice, fleas, bugs of all sorts, spiders and the like are all that the cat has to hunt, and other attractive prey are scarce indoors.
They have to make do with what they have so that may mean that they will
hide out and when you least expect it, they will attack ankles and other moving
body parts of their human counter parts. In some cases you can provide an
appropriate toy to help him with the problem of wanting to hunt something.
Remember that cats have this urge to hunt instilled in their being.
Toys that work in a lot of cases are furry balls on a string, wand, or attached to
a small fishing rod for efficient "casting" and interesting motion as it is reeled
in. There are other things you could try like a wind up mouse or a battery
operated toy that moves on its own. If your children have a radio controlled car
and your cat is not afraid of it that may work to satisfy the urge to hunt. Some
people just tie a toy on a string and drag it thru the house so that the cat will
attack the object and making it a better target then your ankles to bite at.

Can You Really Train A Cat? Is It Worth The Trouble?
Cats are notoriously independent and have a mind of their own. Can you really teach a cat new tricks? Cat owners often think that their cat is just too moody to listen. Some owners feel their cats are UN-trainable simply because they are arrogant. The fact is many times pets don’t obey because they don’t understand what you want from them. So, if you have tried to train your cat, you may not be doing it right.
Training your cat takes time and patience. It takes more of that then it does with a dog. A sure fire way to get results is to use positive reinforcement. Whatever you do, don’t scold your cat because she is likely to just misbehave when you aren’t looking. Instead, praise good behavior.Any cat can learn. It is wise to first start when the pet is young, about eight to ten weeks old. But, the pet will do well at any age.
How do you get started? The first thing to start with is training your cat to come when called. Hold your cat’s favorite treat and call his name. You’ll want to make sure he’s in a good mood. You’ll also want to make sure there isn’t a lot of noise either. Distractions will slow down the cat or confuse him. Decide on one command and use it solely. The command should be short and easy to say. For example, come kitty works well or here kitty will work too.
Now, get down on her level by sitting or kneeling on the floor. Give the command. Make sure your voice is exciting and happy. When the cat comes to you, reward him with the treat. Also, insure that you praise the cat as well. Then, move away and do the same thing again. The goal is to use the same tone of voice and the same command. Work on it for no more than ten minutes. If the cat is bored or frustrated, stop for the time. Try to do this two or three times a day for about a week.
Once he gets this command, you can move on to others. Some things that your cat needs to learn for his own well being are necessary to teach any and all cats. For example, he needs to learn to tolerate a harness and a leash in case you need to travel with him. Also, the cat should learn to use a crate.
Using a Leash and Harness: To do this, you’ll want to start by putting the harness on him. Do not restrain him once it is in place. Praise him for it. Give him a treat for behaving so well. Once he is used to wearing it, attach the leash to it and let him lead you throughout the area. Coax him into following you with treats and praise. Some cats will learn to heel on the leash. But, most will not. All should learn to not panic or to struggle, though when wearing a leash.

Two Unusual Rare Cat Breeds
There are many types of cats, you have your exotic cats, you have your domestic tabby cats and then you have your more unusual rare cat breeds. If you are looking for a rare cat breed then you have a few options that your can choose from. Here we will discuss the Sphinx and the British Shorthair, both rare and both very beautiful cats.
The Sphinx is a rare cat breed that you might want to think about and one of the most unforgettable since they are hairless. In fact the Sphinx is not always completely hairless there can be a fine down on the body, similar to that on a newborn baby.
One of the features that make them so extraordinary is the surface of the Sphinx skin. It has been compared to a suede-covered hot water bottle of heated chamois. These are impressive cats which are medium sized and strong. They characteristically have strong boning and superior muscle development and the adult cats tend to be bigger than the female cats.
Persians require grooming. A wide-metal greyhound comb is suggested and should be combed through the coat daily from the root to the end. Don't forget the chest area, behind the ears and up under the armpits.
Frequency of baths depend on each individual cat's fur. Dilute coated cats tend to be able to go longer between baths yet they mat up faster. Silk coats tend to look string faster- yet hardly ever mat and knot.
Some Persians require baths bi-weekly, while others can go up to six weeks between before even looking dirty.
To the untrained eye, a Persian cat most likely will appear clean even when dirty. Show cats are degreased and bathed to look their very best. The coat of a well- groomed Persian will not look separated or greasy. Many breeders degrease with either Dawn or Joy dishwashing liquid in the bath water or Goop on a dry coat. But be careful, because degreasing can also strip a coat if moisture is not replenished when weekly show baths are given.
Each color of coat may require a different Cat Shampoo. For example, Whites need a shampoo with a brightening or bluing formula to whiten the coat. Blacks need to be darkened and spared from too much light and drying. Tabbies require their bars to be enriched and Reds need to redden the orange appearance. Bicolor's and Dilutes require a shampoo to bring out the color they have the most of, keeping in mind to also brighten the white. Shampoos are sold with colors of coats in mind and will specify exactly what they are intended to do. Our Oatmeal Almond can take care of any coat color and texture.
Mats need to be removed before the bath or they will become worse. Never cut them out with a sharp-pointed tool such as scissors...you could cut the kitty if he jumps. Rip them apart into little knots and try working them out with a comb or your fingers. Sometimes powder can help too.

Feline Acne – Causes, Symptoms and Treatments Feline acne is a common problem seen in cats. It is found on the cat's chin & lips. It is generally accepted that this is caused by plastic bowls and for many cats the solution is simply substituting the plastic bowl for a stainless steel bowl or a glass bowl. The problem may be caused by the inability of the cat to clean his chin properly after drinking the milk resulting in a nutrient rich habitat for bacteria. Grandma's Fruitcake This is the recipe that my grandmother brought with her when she and her family left Russia in the early 1900's. As a child around the 1920's or so, while living on a farm in Pennsylvania which at that time there were a great amount of people coming from Europe, you needed to be able to do things for yourself. She learned from her mother how to make a most delicious white fruit cake, a white fruitcake is a fruitcake that does not have any molasses, molasses which is very bitter, not having the molasses in the fruitcake gives it a lighter color, this gives it the name white fruitcake. This fruitcake in the days in which my mother lived as a child with her parents was only made during Christmas because the only time you could get walnuts, cherries, and some other ingredient's was in the fall of the year. Remember now they didn't go to the store to buy what they needed, they had to grow them. Raisins were dried by the people themselves, they even had to shell their own walnuts, and candy their own cherries, and such the pineapple and coconut I do believe they must have purchased. To keep with tradition the only time of the year that I make or sell this fruitcake is during the Christmas holidays, and in my mind you cannot get a better fruitcake.
