When thinking about what could cause high blood pressure, every person is different, there are a number of known causes including; excess alcohol, excess salt, excess sodium, stress and anxiety (up to a point) .
A big one is salt. It's in most everything you eat or drink so you need to carefully read the labels of the cans and boxes your food comes in. If you cook and eat mostly fresh food you have less to worry about, just do your best not to add to much as you cook.

Drinking alcohol, in anything more than moderation, besides other health problems, can play a part in raising your blood pressure. Another possible cause is the "pill", the contraceptive pill. Women who take the pill have a greater risk of having high blood pressure. Having your blood pressure test every year, even twice a year, is highly recommended.
