Emotional education is an incessant learning process which every human being gets through out their life. It includes the development of skills and intelligence for dealing with the inner and outer environment. In the inner level the emotional education aims at dealing emotional and mental aspects, building self esteem and confidence. On the outer level it aims at developing suitable and creative communication skills. Emotion is the complex physiological experience of an individual state of mind. Emotion is combined with mood, temperament, personality and motivation. Motivation in turn has the power to lead and strengthen behavior which can be positive or negative. An emotional experience is basically due to the experience of the feelings which stem from the heart.
Human beings are distinguished from animals by their intelligence and emotions. Emotionally, one person may need more freedom and independence; another may need more security and social connections. When a person’s emotional needs are met then it develops a healthy behavior. The complicated problem in a school is the treatment of all students as if they have same emotional and psychological needs. For instance, one child may have a greater curiosity for understanding than is provided in traditional schools, while another one is satisfied to accept whatever is told at school. When the emotional needs are not met then the child becomes frustrated. They can then resort to venting their frustration in many ways which is in psychological terms called “misbehavior”. If we understand their basic need then there will be fewer problems.
When person emotional needs are not met then there is high chance of getting serious problem which can be mental health problems, including depression and suicidal feelings, by the time they reach their teen years. Safety and security are everything! It has been found that 90% of the behavior problems arise from children needing attention and not getting it. Studies showed that the suicidal case for teenagers is due to need for a child to be heard out by an adult. It’s true that we feel good when we are heard properly and all the more better when we are understood. Therefore in order to understand we must be heard. On the other hand, feeling ignored and misunderstood is literally painful.
Children feel safe, secure and included, they can be themselves, and be honest about what their needs are, so that these needs can be met. Getting the insight of understanding what is right applies to be correct only when a child is brought up in a healthy manner of rewards and punishments for acceptable and unacceptable behavior respectively. Sometimes the strategies that are needed to make children feel included and safe are pretty straight forward but provided other people are also aware and practicing the same strategies.
